Government terminates contract with company transporting material from China

The government has decided to terminate with immediate effect the contract with the company charged with transporting biosafety material from China to the country, whose first batch, of 70 tons, arrived this Tuesday.

:

According to a statement issued by the Multi-sectoral Commission for Prevention and Combating Covid-19, it was used "by private entities outside the contract, part of the capacity of the aircraft chartered by Angola to bring the means".

The document, cited by the Angop agency, states that in addition to the termination of the contract, an investigation process will be initiated to ascertain responsibilities for what happened.

The Multi-sectoral Commission stresses that the cargo relating to medical and biosecurity means will be reverted to the Angolan State.

The note, which does not mention the name of the company that was in charge of transporting the equipment, stresses that the government has decided that TAAG, the national airline, will take over the operation of transporting the means that are still in China.

Angola has so far registered 45 positive cases of covid-19, of which two people have died and 14 others have recovered.

The Health Minister, Silvia Lutucuta, said on the arrival of the first batch of diverse material to combat covid-19, that during this week more flights with material from China will arrive in the country to complete the 380 tons acquired by the state.
