The new positive case reported is that of a 15-year-old boy, a direct contact from a patient who arrived in Angola from Portugal on 18 March.

The Angolan citizen “had about 25 contacts and there is a whole investigation work in progress”, said Franco Mufinda, adding that the patient is associated with the nine cases of local transmission identified so far in Angola.

"We are setting up sanitary fences in the Cassenda and Futungo neighborhoods (Luanda) and we are proceeding with the disinfection of the streets, providing support to families and redoubling active epidemiological surveillance", informed the Secretary of State.

Of the 36 cases, two resulted in death, 23 are hospitalized and clinically stable and the remaining patients have recovered.

So far, 4175 samples have been collected, with 1005 citizens in institutional quarantine.

Franco Mufinda also said that the 17 passengers returned from Lisbon on flights from 17 to 21 March who did not show up to do the screening tests for covid-19, “were compulsively” admitted to the quarantine center of Calumbo, being their departure conditional on the results of the analyzes.

Globally, according to a report by the AFP news agency, the covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 251,000 deaths and infected almost 3.6 million people in 195 countries and territories.
