PR approves establishment of Justice and Law Reform Commission

The President approved the establishment of the Commission for the Reform of Justice and Law (CRJD) to complete the drafting of new legislation and to monitor the process of implementing the new system of judicial organisation.

The Presidential Order of 26 May, published this Thursday in the Diário da República, deems it necessary to revitalise the work of reforming justice and the law, within the framework of State reform.

The document also stresses that the commission, to be coordinated by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Queiroz, is constituted to monitor the implementation of the technological model of management of the courts of common jurisdiction and in view of the need to proceed with the implementation of guidelines of the Training and Human Resources Program for the Justice Sector.

The CRJD, with a period of validity of 24 months, has among its various attributions, that of coordinating the overall strategy of the reform of justice and law, within the framework of the reform of the State, to monitor and propose relevant changes for the implementation of the model of training and continuous improvement of judicial operators.

"To develop the actions necessary to ensure the harmonization of the reform of justice and law, within the framework of the organization and harmonization of the State and the administration of justice, in particular", the document also points out as attributions of the CRJD.

The commission, in addition to representatives of the Constitutional, Supreme and Audit Courts, the Attorney General's Office, the Civil House of the President of the Republic and the Angolan Bar Association, is composed of jurists Raul Araújo, Carlos Feijó and Virgílio de Fontes Pereira.

In another dispatch, João Lourenço updated the composition of the Interministerial Commission for the Promotion of the National Program for the Rescue of Moral and Civic Values, which is now coordinated by the Minister of State and Head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida.

The commission now created has the task of creating conditions for the implementation of the National Program for the Rescue of Moral and Civic Values, supported by a technical group, coordinated by a Secretary of State for Territorial Administration.

In addition to members of 13 ministerial departments, the commission also includes the Secretary of the President of the Republic for Judicial and Legal Affairs, the Secretary of the President of the Republic for State Reform, the Secretary of the President for Social Affairs, the economic and social advisor to the Vice-President of the Republic, representatives of non-governmental organisations, religious platforms, private institutions and trade union centres.
