A month of state of emergency with almost 6,000 detainees and fewer violent crimes

Nearly 6,000 people were arrested in the country's first month of state of emergency, when there was also a decrease in violent crime, with 60 fewer homicides than in the same period, the police announced.

According to the police spokesman, who this Tuesday presented statistical data on the performance of defense and security forces in the first month of the state of emergency, between 27 March and 25 April, Angola recorded a decrease in the violent crime.

Valdemar José indicated that there was a decrease in the number of homicides (minus 60), as well as 379 fewer crimes of bodily harm and 122 fewer crimes using firearms compared to the previous period, and less two road accidents per day .

On the other hand, 5859 people were detained for violation of the rules provided for in the presidential decrees regarding the state of emergency, of which 516 were summarily tried.

Almost half (2823) were detained for violating the inter-provincial health fence and violating borders by foreign citizens.

Another 1739 citizens were detained for exercising a mototaxi activity, prohibited during this period, 755 for overcrowding in collective taxis, 406 for disobedience and resistance to the authorities, 51 pastors of religious confessions for promoting collective services, 50 citizens for price speculation, 13 for attempting to bribe agents, five for illegal possession of weapons and three for attempting to run over security forces.

9630 citizens were also compulsorily collected: 3608 for improperly circulating on public roads, 4951 for agglomeration on public roads, 1049 for street vending on unauthorized days and two for prostitution.

11,340 seizures were carried out across the country: 3,544 vehicles over-loaded, 7,759 motorcycles, 12 weapons and 31 gas cylinders with speculative prices, in addition to 274,925 liters of fuel.

1904 commercial establishments and markets were closed, of which 1567 informal markets, 28 warehouses, 45 canteens (small grocery stores), 254 temples and places of worship, two security companies and eight trailers.
