It was on Tuesday night that the 22-year-old gymnast won gold, after obtaining the maximum score in the mace apparatus (25.10 points). In addition, according to Angop, the Angolan gymnast scored 24 points, 22.70 points and 21.40 points in the circle, ball and ribbon, respectively.

The silver medal was won by Letícia da Costa (Brazil), who obtained 20.30 points in the circle and the same score in the ball, as well as 18 points in the mace and 17.60 points in the ribbon.

Emília Ekandjo (Namibia) completes the podium. The Namibian gymnast won bronze after scoring 19.10 points in the circle, 17.60 points in the mace and 18.50 points in the ribbon.

In addition to Luana Gomes' gold medal, Brígida Gouveia also won silver in the same specialty among juniors, having obtained 13.70 points in the circle choreography, as well as 14.10 points, 11.60 points and 12 points in the ball, club and ribbon, respectively.

This Wednesday, the tournament will feature group events, as well as flying training.

According to Angop, Angolan, Brazilian, Namibian, Portuguese and Zimbabwean athletes will be present at this tournament.

It should also be noted that, in 2028, the country could host the African Gymnastics Championship. The information was provided by Ehab Amin Esawy, president of the African Gymnastics Confederation, who said that Angola could host the African gymnastics championship for the first time in the first three months of 2028.

The official, speaking to Angop after a meeting with Rui Falcão, Minister of Youth and Sports, assured that he will use all his diplomacy to ensure that the championship takes place in Angola and that it will be a qualifier for the 'Los Angeles 2028' Olympic Games.

The president of the African confederation considered that, taking into account the characteristics of the Kilamba multipurpose pavilion, which currently hosts the independence tournament, it is quite likely that it will also host the African event.

Quoted by Angop, he explained that the idea is to hold two competitions in one, also including an international event that allows gymnasts from other continents to participate, thus increasing the visibility of this sport and the country.

The meeting between the two individuals served to discuss the implementation of a training cycle for local professionals, in the areas of rhythmic and aerobics, at the end of this year.

Rui Falcão, reacting to the proposal, said it was "an event that the country can host without any problems", adding that, in terms of infrastructure, the conditions for this are in place, admitting, however, the urgency of improving the equipment and relaunching the sport.
