According to a statement from the Cuanza Norte government, to which VerAngola had access, the ceremony to hand over the keys to the families, who saw their homes destroyed by the rains, took place last Tuesday.
"Sixty families who lived in precarious conditions on the banks of the Kapakala River, in the municipality of Cambambe, received new homes in the recently created 10 de Agosto neighborhood on Tuesday, April 8. The delivery of the homes marks the beginning of a new stage for dozens of citizens affected by the heavy rains that have hit the region in recent years," the statement says.
The Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, presided over the ceremony.
"The official act of handing over the houses was presided over by the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, in the company of the provincial governor of Cuanza Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, who highlighted the Executive's commitment to guaranteeing better living conditions for vulnerable populations", says the statement.
Some of the beneficiaries are moved by the delivery of the houses. This was the case of Nazaré Jorge João Gaspar.
The 37-year-old beneficiary "did not hide her emotion when receiving the key to her new home", after her old house was "completely destroyed by the force of the waters".
"It was very difficult to see everything we built disappear. Today is a new beginning for me and my children. I am very grateful to the Government for this opportunity," she said, quoted in the note.
Marcelina Domingos Dombo Tati said it was a "dream come true".
"It's a dream come true. Here we will live with more dignity and security," she said.
"The housing project in 10 de Agosto neighborhood includes basic services such as drinking water, electricity and sanitation, in an initiative that aims to promote social inclusion and ensure greater resilience to climate change", the note states, adding that "authorities guarantee that more phases of the rehousing program are planned, covering other families still at risk in the riverside areas of Kapakala".
"This action is clear proof that we are attentive to the needs of our people. We will continue working so that everyone has a safe and dignified home," said the governor of the province, João Diogo Gaspar.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, to which VerAngola had access, the residences are of types T1, T2, T3 and T4 and "will now provide due comfort to the families benefiting in the municipality of Cambambe".
