Held in Luanda, the meeting served not only for the ambassador – who is finishing a nine-year mission in the country – to say goodbye to the head of state, but also to analyze the strengthening of bilateral collaboration.
"The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received today [Monday], at the Presidential Palace, farewell greetings from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Gabon accredited to Angola, Guy Nambo Wezet", reads a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access.
After the meeting, in statements to the press, cited in the note, the diplomat said he was leaving the country with a "sense of duty fulfilled", for having "contributed to the strengthening of relations between the two States".
According to Guy Blaise Wezet, quoted by Angop, the two governments will continue to strive to strengthen cooperation relations, with an emphasis on the economic and commercial areas, aiming at the progress of peoples and countries.
On the occasion, he also spoke about the political scenario in his country, which the diplomat assessed as "stable", after the presidential elections on 12 April, won by Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema with almost 91 percent of the votes.
It should be recalled that, last week, João Lourenço sent congratulations to the newly elected President of Gabon.
"On behalf of the Government and the Angolan people, I convey my warm and fraternal congratulations to Your Excellency, for your recent election to the office of President of the Gabonese Republic, following the holding of the Presidential Elections of 12 April 2025", he said.
"I also congratulate the political maturity and enormous civic sense demonstrated by the Gabonese people during this process, extending to all political actors and civil society in general, for the patriotic spirit, further strengthening social cohesion," added João Lourenço in his message.
"I am absolutely convinced that your election to the highest office in your country represents a great achievement for the Gabonese people, relaunching the foundations of economic and social development, reinforcing the consolidation of the country's political and democratic institutions, and also representing an important step in the resumption of constitutional normality, in harmony with the Constitutive Charter of the African Union," he said.
Furthermore, he also expressed "best wishes for success" and reiterated his willingness to work together: "In this context, I express our best wishes for success in your noble mission, reiterating my full willingness to work together to strengthen bilateral relations between our two countries, maximizing the comparative advantages that our respective economies offer and collaborating closely in building consensual positions on matters of common interest, in the regional and international organizations of which we are member states."
