The statement released on Friday by the press office of the Presidency of the Republic states that the pardon took into account, in addition to serving half of the prison sentence, the good behavior demonstrated and the absence of social danger resulting from the restitution of freedom to the convicted individuals.

The list includes convicted citizens from the provinces of Bengo, Benguela, Bié, Cabinda, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Cubango, Cunene, Huambo, Huíla, Icolo and Bengo, Luanda, Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Malanje, Moxico, Namibe, Uíge and Zaire.

As of Wednesday, pardoned citizens will no longer serve their sentences, an "act of clemency by the President of the Republic", as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of national independence, the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation and "aimed at granting prisoners sentenced to custodial sentences an opportunity for social and family reintegration", the note reads.

Journalist Carlos Raimundo Alberto was sentenced to two years in prison in 2023 for abuse of press freedom in a journalistic investigation case targeting former Deputy Attorney General Mota Liz.

Carlos Alberto, a suspended member of the Angolan Social Communication Regulatory Entity (ERCA), was sentenced in 2021 to a two-year suspended sentence, and was given a period of 20 days to publicly apologize to the offended party, which was not fully complied with.

He was also ordered to pay compensation of more than 100 million kwanzas.
