Nine deaths and 189 cases of cholera recorded in the last 24 hours

The country has recorded nine deaths and 189 new cases of cholera, bringing the total to 396 deaths and 10,422 infections since the outbreak began in January, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

Data for Thursday indicate that 62 cases were reported in Benguela province, leading the number of regions with new infections in the last 24 hours, but with no deaths.

Luanda province, the epicentre of the outbreak, recorded 48 new cases and three deaths, the same number of deaths also recorded in Cuanza Sul.

During the period under analysis, 94 people were discharged and 499 others are currently hospitalised with the disease.

Since the start of the outbreak, the provinces of Luanda and Bengo have recorded the highest number of deaths, with 167 and 106 deaths, respectively.

In terms of cases, Luanda and Bengo also lead the list with 4,582 and 2,681 infections, respectively.
