Huambo hosts central event of Peace and National Reconciliation Day

The province of Huambo will host, this Thursday (4 April, the day on which Peace and National Reconciliation Day is celebrated), the central event of the celebrations of 22 years of Peace and National Reconciliation.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration informs, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, that the event will take place in the Osvaldo de Jesus Serra Van-Dunem pavilion and will be presided over by the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, General Francisco Pereira Furtado, representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

It should be noted that this year, the Peace Day celebrations will be under the motto "Together for the Inclusive Development of the Country".

"The celebrations of the 4th of April aim to develop actions that instill in Angolans the ideals of peace, fraternity, solidarity, social justice, unity and reconciliation, encourage and promote the spirit of tolerance, mutual respect, exaltation of values such as love to the homeland and respect for its symbols, as well as praising definitive peace and national reconciliation", points out the statement.

Before the event, the Flame of Peace will be lit and the wreath will be laid in Largo Doutor António Agostinho Neto, according to the program, cited by Angop.

This Thursday will mark the 22nd anniversary of this date, which results from the signing, on April 4, 2002, of the Luena Memorandum of Understanding, supplementary to the Lusaka Agreement, by the leaders of the Angolan Armed Forces and of the former UNITA (FALA) forces, ending more than 20 years of armed conflict.
