Heavy rains left three dead and two missing

At least three people died and two others were reported missing following the heavy rains that fell, from Wednesday until Saturday, in some national provinces, according to preliminary data released on Friday by local firefighters.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, the director of the Institutional Communication and Press office of the National Civil Protection and Fire Service, Wilson Baptista, made it known that the provinces of Luanda, Zaire, Cabinda, Cuanza Sul and Bié were the most affected by the intense rains. .

The fatalities were recorded in the provinces of Cuanza Sul (two) and Bié (one), according to the same source, which indicated that two citizens were reported missing.

“The searches continue during this period and will continue until the next few hours”, he assured.

In relation to the province of Luanda, with the country's capital recording intense levels of precipitation, the official said that preliminary data points to 676 flooded houses and several flooded and impassable streets.

The intense rains that fell in a large part of the Angolan provinces, accompanied by strong winds and electrical discharges, left several neighborhoods and localities deprived of a regular supply of water and electricity.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics of Angola also predicts intense and/or moderate rains in several parts of the country this week.
