João Lourenço, who was speaking this Friday as president of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), at the opening of the Central Committee meeting in Luanda, said that, with the supply of energy to Cabinda, from of the national network, the country will save financial resources that it spends on purchasing fuel.

"We are working on an unprecedented solution to bring energy from the national grid to Cabinda from Soyo and, with that, discontinue the use of thermal plants, which are large consumers of fossil fuels, enemies of the environment", he stated.

The MPLA leader stressed that the Central Committee meeting, preceded by the MPLA Political Bureau meeting, will debate the issue of the state of the energy and water sector, especially with the new investments in view.

According to João Lourenço, Angola is already producing around 6400 megawatts, of which it consumes around half, which points to the need to prioritize, from now on, investment, "preferably private", in energy transport and distribution produced.

"So that we can increase industrial and domestic consumption and sell energy to our neighbors, injecting it into the SADC [Southern African Development Community] network, to the south of our country, as well as transporting it to the so-called Copperbelt region, in Zambia, 1300 kilometers from Laúca", said João Lourenço.

João Lourenço highlighted the major projects in the execution phase or scheduled, such as the Caculo Cabaça hydroelectric dam, the Bita and Quilonga projects, to reinforce the water supply to the city of Luanda, which currently has more than 12 million inhabitants and large water storage projects such as Cova do Leão, Ndue and Calucuve, in Cunene, and the Curoca, Carojamba, Giraúl, Namangando, Bero and Bentiaba projects, in Namibe.

Regarding the health sector, João Lourenço stressed that it is "increasingly visible to everyone's eyes" that the Government is carrying out "a true revolution in the health sector, at all levels of care", admitting that there is "still a lot to be done to do".

"It is clear that, to guarantee the health of Angolans, we also need to pay greater attention to basic sanitation in cities and towns, improve the diet of citizens, through increasing the internal production of food (...), an effort that which has been done by our farmers and ranchers, but above all by peasants, within the framework of family farming", he said.

At the international level, the MPLA leader highlighted that "the world is experiencing a challenging moment, which cannot leave anyone indifferent, due to the fact that the destiny and future of all humanity is in danger and not only due to the rapid and growing changes climate change, but above all due to the real threat to world peace and security, with ongoing conflicts in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East".

"The invasion and annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia is something that violates and seriously violates the Charter of the United Nations, international law, healthy coexistence between nations and the peace achieved with great sacrifice by the Allied forces when overthrowing Nazism in 1945", he said, highlighting that the old conflict between Israel and Palestine has today reached "levels of cruelty never imagined and the attempt to eliminate one another is not realistic, no matter how much either party trusts in the military power it has or can mobilize with its allies".

The solution, he continued, is for the two States to coexist peacefully: "And the longer it takes to create and recognize the state of Palestine, the greater the suffering will be on both sides, both peoples", he concluded.
