CPLP summit takes place on 8 August

The next summit of heads of state and government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) will take place on August 8, according to an official document that Lusa had access to this Monday.

:

The date, which until now was only indicative, was confirmed by the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe, the country that will then assume the presidency of the organization, to the CPLP's executive secretariat.

In a note verbale, dated 13 April, sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of São Tomé and Príncipe to the CPLP executive secretariat, "the country informs that the date for holding the next summit has already been set and that it will be on 8 August".

The theme of the summit will be "Youth and Sustainability", according to the organisation's executive secretary, Zacarias da Costa, in statements to Lusa in March.

At the next summit, São Tomé and Príncipe will assume the rotating presidency of the Portuguese-speaking community for two years. Currently, the presidency is exercised by Angola.

The CPLP comprises Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
