Block 15 reaches historic production milestone with 2.5 billion barrels

The National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency and the Contractor Group for Block 15, operated by ExxonMobil Angola, announce that they have reached the historic milestone of 2.5 billion barrels of oil in accumulated production in Block 15. 20 years, from FPSO Xikomba.

Block 15 is located approximately 145 kilometers west of the coast of Zaire province, in deep waters off the coast of Angola.

The feat now achieved adds to the successful history of that asset, which has 18 commercial discoveries, making it one of the most successful offshore concessions in West Africa.

Due to the increasing maturity of the fields in block 15, the current focus is on maximizing the recovery of the remaining resources by optimizing production, using technological advances and reducing emissions.

“This milestone achieved in Block 15 demonstrates that Angola maintains a good potential for oil and gas production, so the National Concessionaire, together with its partners, will do everything to ensure that the sector continues to be profitable and contribute to the development of the Nation. maintain the focus on proximity to investors and all stakeholders, the use of innovative technology and the promotion of a highly qualified national workforce", says the chairman of the Board of Directors of ANPG, Paulino Jerónimo, in a statement sent to VerAngola .

For her part, the director general of ExxonMobil Angola, Melissa Bond, said that "the accumulated production of 2.5 billion barrels is proof of the dedication and hard work of the workers, service providers and partners in Block 15 ", delivering volumes safely and reliably for two decades. "It is yet another example of ExxonMobil's commitment to the continued development of the region," she added.

It should be noted that block 15 put five FPSOs into operation in six years, thus establishing the fastest execution time in West Africa and one of the fastest in the history of the industry.

Production was based on the start-up of the FPSO Xikomba in 2003, followed by the application of the "Design One, Build Several" strategy for FPSOs Kizomba A in 2004, Kizomba B in 2005 and two on Kizomba C (Mondo and Saxi -Batuque) in 2008.
