Sérgio Graciano films in Angola a trilogy by writer Ruy Duarte de Carvalho

Portuguese director Sérgio Graciano is in Angola shooting the feature film “Os Papéis do Inglês”, based on a trilogy by Angolan writer Ruy Duarte de Carvalho, revealed producer Leopardo Filmes.

The film, which is being shot in southern Angola, features a screenplay by Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa and is an adaptation of the trilogy “Os Filhos de Próspero”, composed of the works “Os Papéis do Inglês” (2000), “As Favorable Landscapes” (2005) and “The Third Half” (2009).

The cast includes João Pedro Vaz, David Caracol, Miguel Borges, Joana Ribeiro, Carolina Amaral, Afonso Pimentel, Maya Booth and Ian Toner.

According to production company Leopardo Filmes, the project will also give rise to a six-episode miniseries.

The writer and anthropologist Ruy Duarte de Carvalho was born in Santarém in 1941, became a naturalized Angolan in the 1980s and died in 2010 in Namibia, where he lived. He was a multifaceted author, whose work ranged from literature to the visual arts, cinema and anthropology.

Sérgio Graciano has been working in the audiovisual sector for nearly two decades, in particular directing for television and cinema. In 2022 he signed the film “Salgueiro Maia – O Implicate” and the series “A Rainha e a Bastarda” and “Da Mood”.

Previously, he filmed, among others, the feature films “The impossibility of being alone” and “The sound that comes down from the Earth”, and the series “A Generala”.
