According to a statement sent to VerAngola, the said productions will compete in the categories of 'Best Soap Opera', 'Best Comedy Series' and 'Best Original Series'.
"The Angolan productions Mahinga, Mussulando and Njila, produced by Diamond Films and Geração 80, respectively, are also competing for the big prizes for: Best Telenovela, Best Comedy Series and Best Original Series", reads the statement.
The aforementioned edition of the AMVCAs – whose nominees were announced on Sunday night by actors Bisola Aiyeola from Nigeria and Adjetey Anang from Ghana – will take place between 18 and 20 May, in Lagos (Nigeria), "and will be a celebration of film production and culture of African entertainment".
"The Nigerian film Anikulapo, with sixteen nominations and the series Shanty Town, co-produced between South Africa and Nigeria, with eleven nominations, are the big favorites to receive the maximum distinction of this edition", the statement adds.
According to the note, of the announced categories, 10 are open to public voting, while the rest will be decided "by the jury panel" of the awards, which is chaired by Nigerian filmmaker Femi Odugbemi (former director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory).
It should be noted that the categories in which national productions compete are included in the public voting list. In this way, voting, as well as viewing all categories, can be done here.
"The AMVCA awards are true celebrations where we celebrate African culture, heritage and stories, told by Africans, we also celebrate our stars, individual and collective talent, and once again the jury, as well as the public will have the difficult task of electing the best, as all works feature excellent technique, great storytelling and captivating performances", said Femi Odugbemi, quoted in the statement.
This annual award is awarded by MultiChoice and "recognises extraordinary achievements in television and film production on the continent", clarifies the note.
