TAAG plane bound for Lisbon diverted to Seville

A TAAG - Angolan Airlines plane that was connecting Luanda - Lisbon was diverted this Monday to Seville airport, due to a failure that affected a radar at Lisbon airport, confirmed a source from NAV.

:

"NAV Portugal registered today, at the end of the morning, at 5:41 am, a failure in the air traffic management system that forced the activation of the measures foreseen for situations of this nature in order to ensure total safety in air transport", reads in a statement sent by the air navigation service provider.

The failure in the system occurred at a time with little traffic, the NAV pointed out, even so, for safety reasons, a limitation of the capacity of traffic flow was implemented, which caused "some delays in the early hours of the morning".

Additionally, as an official NAV source confirmed to Lusa, a TAAG plane that was connecting the Angolan and Portuguese capitals was diverted to the airport in Seville, Spain.

"Despite the occasional failure of the air traffic management system, the existing safety procedures to deal with similar situations ensured that traffic safety was never in question", assured the NAV.
