Port of Cabinda exports more than two dozen of wooden containers per month

The Port of Cabinda exports more than two dozen of wooden containers monthly. According to João Kuvíngua, chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the port, around 25 containers of closed wood, with 20 feet each, are exported per month by the company to countries such as Portugal, the United States of America and Vietnam.

After the restructuring works – which include a definitive Quebra Mar Pier, the Passenger Maritime Terminal and the paving of the terminal – are completed, the company expects to export minerals, he said.

Speaking to Angop, the port's CEO indicated that there are "phosphate production companies interested in knowing what the real capacities are", adding that "probably these will be" their "future customers for this variant, which is used for the production of fertilizers".

He also made it known that the wood 'made in Angola' is taken in its entirety from the Maiombe Forest.

On the other side of the coin, João Kavíngua informed that the country imports equipment, machinery, household appliances, food products and vehicles from South Africa, Portugal, Dubai, China and the United States of America via that port.

Cited by Angop, the official clarified that most of the goods in the basic basket do not pass through that port, since there is a mooring point (called 'Tier') where almost all products that leave the capital and other places pass to Soyo, in Zaire.

"From Soyo, the goods are loaded in small boats. Therefore, in fact, from the Port of Cabinda, a certain amount of the basic food basket passes, but the large quantities made available in the markets and which feed commerce, for the most part, do not pass through here", he explained, speaking to Angop.

He also made it known that, because of the pandemic, the company's monthly invoicing has dropped, from 450 million kwanzas to around 200 million kwanzas.
