REA drops the price of basic food products by 17.2 percent this week

The Executive's commitment to the Strategic Food Reserve (REA) as a way of lowering prices remains, and for the week of April 4th to 10th, a price decrease was announced for the main products of the basic basket in the order of 17 .2 percent compared to November 2021.

Thus, it is estimated that the price of wheat flour (25 kilograms package) will drop to 10,250 kwanzas, against the 23,033 kwanzas practiced in 2021, which represents a drop of around 55 percent.

The bag of cornmeal, also weighing 25kg, will be sold at 9,300 kwanzas, against 4,500 kwanzas in the previous period under analysis. The drop will be in the order of 23.9 percent.

A bag of sugar (50 kg) will also cost 22,600 kwanzas and not 24,200 kwanzas (a 6.6 percent reduction) and the 25 kg bag of rice will go from 11,717 to 8,790 kwanzas (29.3 percent less). Also with regard to rice, the 25 kg variety Myanmar reduces from 10,000 to 8,700 kwanzas (13 percent less).

The drop in prices for basic food products also included the soy box (12 liters), which went from a cost of 17,450 kwanzas to 13,800 kwanzas (a 20.9 percent drop). The chicken thigh (10kg) also drops from 10,190 kwanzas to 8,250 kwanzas (19 percent less).

In the opposite direction, the REA foresees the rise in the bag of pinto beans (25kg) from 24,000 to 28,750 kwanzas, an increase of around 19.8 percent.

According to Angop, which cites the REA managers, these values ​​are valid for the entire national territory and compared to the month of November 2021. The National Strategic Reserve was activated on 21 December last year.
