Angola wants to bring desalination of water from Cape Verde to the Moçâmedes desert

The Minister of the Environment, Filipe Zau, recognized this Thursday the desalination of seawater as a good practice in Cape Verde that wants to take to the Moçâmedes desert to set populations on site.

The minister expressed this will, in the city of Praia, as part of a visit to the archipelago, having been during the morning of Thursday in the seawater desalination plant in fresh water of the water production company Electra, in Praia.

"It is one of the concerns that we also have for the moçâmedes desert [a city and municipality, capital of the province of Namibe]," the governor began, leaving a meeting with the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves.

The minister said that the country has seen climate change very sharply and the desert is growing to other provinces, constituting a "danger" to the sustainability of populations, fauna and flora.

"We have the Iona National Park with animals, we have populations in constant mobility, often looking for water and this leads us to think about the sedentary of these same populations by mechanisms that can be adopted, transforming much of the environmental adversities that we have in that area," he suggested.

In this sense, he said that Angola wants to "drink" all good practices, one of which is the desalination of water in Cape Verde, which already takes 54 years.

"And this is one of the good practices that allowed the development of Cape Verde (...), it is something that we also want to do," said the minister, acknowledging that Angola has more water in other regions, but needs to take the liquid to the deserts to "win the country."

Filipe Silvino de Pina Zau, who also oversees the folders of Culture and Tourism, is in Cape Verde to participate in the festivals of the municipality of São Filipe, on the island of Fogo, representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

After the hearing, the minister continued a trip to the island of Fogo, where the Cape Verdean head of state, who is the president of honor of the celebrations, which this year marks the centenary, will also be present.
