TCUL workers' strike leads to suspension of the company's inter-municipal services

The inter-municipal services of the Luanda Urban Public Transport Company (TCUL) have been suspended since Monday. At stake is the strike of the company's workers who are fighting for salary adjustments, for the "regular and punctual payment of wages" and for the "end of the dismissals of workers contrary to the General Labor Law".

:

Domingos Palanca, first secretary of the CG-SILA union commission at TCUL made it known that, so far, 80 percent of the workers have joined the strike.

"All urban traffic, except for the minimum services, is paralyzed. By now, 123 out of a universe of 140 buses are stopped. Only the inter-provincials and the rental services are in operation," he said, speaking to Luanda Antena Comercial and cited by Angop.

Domingos Palanca explained that the union commission will suspend the strike when the company presents updated salaries, creates a commission to analyse dismissals and ends the excessive hours of work without the right to overtime.

The strike aims to make the company's management respond to the demands submitted in the demands booklet last month. According to Angop, among the several demands are "the salary readjustment, regular and punctual payment of wages" as well as "the end of workers dismissals in contravention of the General Labor Law".

André Gomes, director of the company's Communication Office, said that TCUL was not previously informed about the strike.

He stressed that the company's administration has already responded to the workers' demands and that, for this reason, he doesn't understand why the strike is still on.
