Five portuguese companies joined the mega cleanup of Luanda

Five Portuguese companies are among the eleven construction companies mobilized by the Ministry of Construction to support the Luanda Provincial Government (GPL) in the mega cleaning campaign launched to deal with the tons of garbage accumulated in recent months.

According to a document to which Lusa had access, of the 21 companies mobilized by the government, eleven confirmed their availability, including the Portuguese companies Tecnovia, Mota Engil, Casais, Elevo (resulting from the merger of Edifer, Monte Adriano, Hagen and Eusébios) , and Conduril, who started their journey this Monday.

Also Omatapalo, of Portuguese origin, which started its activity in the city in Lubango, is in the group of participating companies, as well as the Angolan Engevia, Carmon and Griner (which recently bought Sacyr Somague Angola) and the Chinese group China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC).

The list also includes the Brazilian Queiroz Galvão, one of the six operators with whom the government suspended, in December, the contracts for the collection of garbage in the capital due to the inability to pay an accumulated debt of more than 300 million euros.

The decision led to an accumulation of debris in Luanda over the past few months, with environmental consequences and risks to public health that the government has already recognized.

In February, the GPL selected seven companies, among 39 candidates that competed for the public tender, for the collection of garbage, but the problem is not yet solved.

On Saturday, the Government announced the launch of a mega cleaning campaign with the involvement of private companies, which will participate on a voluntary basis, and personnel from the Armed Forces, to support the operators selected by tender.
