US Ambassador discussed the fight against corruption with João Lourenço

The ambassador of the United States of America (USA) in Angola said Thursday that she had discussed with the President, João Lourenço, the issues of corruption and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Nina Fite told the press at the end of the hearing that money laundering was another topic addressed during the meeting.

"We talked about bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on the measures that the executive has taken or is taking against money laundering and the fight against corruption," she said.

According to the Ambassador of the United States of America in Angola, the US Treasury Department continues to provide capacity building to various ministries, as well as supporting other technical groups in strengthening national capabilities to face these challenges.

"The Biden administration is now looking with great interest at Angola and Africa, because they want to have more cooperation," said the US diplomat.

The US ambassador stressed that her country is supporting the vaccination program and procurement of vaccines against covid-19, highlighting that vaccines worth about four billion dollars have already been provided to the African continent under the Covax initiative.

"In this case you can see that the United States of America is again supporting and even in any administration of ours we always continue to support the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria in the countries," she stressed.
