Covid-19: Angola registers 226 more cases and four deaths after the announcement of a second wave

Angola registered in the last 24 hours 226 more cases of covid-19, four deaths and 243 recovered patients, announced this Wednesday the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta.

Of the new cases, 210 were registered in Luanda, seven in Huambo, four in Huila and one in each of the following provinces: Benguela, Bengo, Cuanza Sul, Malanje and Uige.

The ages range from one month to 87 years, with 106 people being males and 120 females.

Four deaths were reported, two in Luanda, one in Huíla and one in Benguela, concerning two men and two women, as well as 243 recoveries.

Angola totals 26,168 covid-19 cases, with 591 deaths, 23,584 recovered patients and 1993 active cases.

A total of 2579 samples were processed for a total of 496,742 tests, with a positivity rate of 8.7 percent.

The minister, who announced Wednesday that Angola is in "full second wave" said that more cases have also been detected at the points of entry and exit of Luanda, which remain under sanitary fence.

At the airport on February 4, 35,953 have been tested since January 16, with 89 positive cases.

Angola has already vaccinated 503,000 people and will start administering the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on May 2.
