Covid-19: country records death of a Cuban health worker and "important number" of 573 recovered

The country recorded the death of a Cuban health worker associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, in addition to 86 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, and 573 people recovered, the health minister said Monday.

Silvia Lutucuta proceeded this Monday to the presentation of the epidemiological situation about covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Of the total number of cases, 80 were diagnosed in Luanda, two in Huíla, one, respectively, in Benguela, Cabinda, Cuando Cubango and Zaire, in people aged between 6 and 85 years, being 50 males and 36 females.

The death reported in the province of Benguela is related to a 63-year-old Cuban citizen, a health professional.

"We have today an important number of recoveries, 573 recovered - 322 in Cabinda, 180 in Benguela, 50 in Zaire, seven in Malanje, six in Luanda, five in Huambo, two in Namibe and one in Cuando Cubango, with ages between 3 and 58 years", informed the minister.

From the laboratory surveillance, 2165 samples were processed by RT-PCR in the last 24 hours, pointing the cumulative to 443,115 processed samples, with a cumulative positivity rate of 5.4 percent.

"We have by now, as cumulative data, 22,717 cases, with 543 deaths, 21,452 recovered, 722 active cases, of which three critical, ten severe, 40 moderate, 28 mild and the remaining asymptomatic," indicated the minister, noting that 81 people are hospitalized.

In the period in reference, 772 people were tested in and out of Luanda, all with negative results.

Regarding the testing at the airport, there is the accumulation of 27,482 people, of which 72 positive cases and after the mandatory quarantine 12 positive cases were also detected.

"We are by now making an assessment of the epidemiological situation, strengthening our epidemiological and laboratory surveillance, we are testing in markets, in schools and we will soon share the results," the minister said.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,853,908 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 131.2 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
