Sonangol: crude production will be enough to sustain refineries in the country

The production of crude in the country will be enough to sustain the projected refineries in Angola, said Ricardo Van-Deste, president of the Executive Committee of Sonangol's Exploration and Production Business Unit.

:

"The question is that this production may have to be bought by the refineries, at competitive prices, in the market," Ricardo Van-Deste told the Sonangol newspaper 'Pacaça', quoted by Angop.

The daily production of oil in the country is currently 1.2 million barrels. However, this number may increase with the entry of new refineries into operation.

In question are the refineries of Cabinda, Lobito, Soyo and the modernization of the Luanda refinery.

According to Angop, the Cabinda refinery is expected to be able to process 60,000 barrels of oil per day, the Soyo refinery will have a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day and it is estimated that the Lobito refinery will be able to produce 200,000 barrels per day. The Luanda plant, which is currently being modernized, should go from a capacity of 72,000 tons to 450,000 tons per year.

He also said that for this year, Sonangol's Exploration and Production Business Unit intends to re-launch activity in four onshore blocks.

In addition, the unit also plans to move forward with exploration and appraisal of four onshore blocks (one in the Congo Basin and the others in the Kwanza Basin).

In terms of gas production, Van-Deste said that the oil company also wants to strengthen its presence in this sector, noting that Sonangol's Exploration and Production Business Unit is a partner in the new gas consortium, which aims to develop two discoveries by 2024.
