Portuguese remittances in Angola rise 5.5 percent to 14.2 million in February

Remittances from Portuguese emigrants in Angola rose 5.5 percent to 14.2 million euros in February, while Angolans in Portugal sent 12.1 percent less in February compared to the same period in 2020, according to official data.

According to data from Banco de Portugal, posted this Thursday on the website of the financial regulator, Portuguese emigrants in Angola sent 14.2 million euros in February this year, which represents an increase of 5.5 percent compared to to the 13.4 million sent in February last year.

Conversely, Angolans in Portugal sent 650 thousand euros to their country, which represents a decrease of 12.1 percent compared to the 740 thousand euros sent in February last year.

As usual, remittances to and from Angola account for most of the 14.8 million euros that Portuguese emigrants in African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP) sent to Portugal, which represents an increase of 5 percent compared to February of last year.

Conversely, Portuguese-speaking African workers in Portugal sent 2.99 million euros to their countries, which represents a 3.2 percent drop from the 3 million sent in February last year.

Globally, Portuguese emigrants sent 302.87 million euros to Portugal in February, which is equivalent to an increase of 0.82 percent compared to the same period in 2020, while immigrant remittances fell 0.11 percent.

The Portuguese working abroad sent in February 302.87 million euros, which represents an increase of 0.82 percent compared to the 300.41 million sent in February last year.

Conversely, foreigners working in Portugal sent 36.8 million euros, representing a decrease of 0.1 percent compared to the 36.8 million sent in February last year.
