DHL to transport tons of protective equipment to Africa every week

DHL decided to launch a weekly air service to transport about 100 tons of goods - medicines, masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and goggles - to the African continent.

In view of the fact that DHL has an infrastructure located in Dubai - the country considered to be the gateway between African countries and the Asian continent - the carrier decided "to ensure the supply of cargo from the Chinese city of Guangzhou and its air transport from Dubai to the various destinations throughout the African continent", explained the company in a statement to VerAngola.

The note also states that this transport will take two to three days.

According to the CEO of DHL Global Forwarding to the Middle East and Africa, Amadou Diallo, the aim of this service is to "strengthen the logistical support" for those who need to ensure "stable supply chains, especially of clinical material, during this critical period".

He said the "numerous flight cancellations" are overloading air freight capacity around the world and therefore this decision aims to "provide customized solutions to ensure that priority goods and services continue to reach people and communities across Africa and the Middle East".

This service goes live this Tuesday, April 21, and will remain active for the next four weeks, he adds.
