PR approves investment of 130 million to explore "Rare Lands" in Huambo

The President of the Republic approved the investment of 130 million dollars, which will be used in the "Rare Lands" project - the name given to a reserve with some 23 billion rare metal ore, located in Huambo.

:

The money will be used to exploit the minerals in that reserve. According to Novo Jornal, João Lourenço's endorsement comes after a two-year exploration study.

The exploration of the metal was attributed to the Ozango Minerals Society and will occupy an extension of 21.2 square kilometres of the reserve.

According to the presidential order, cited by Novo Jornal, the exploration agreement established with the Ozango Minerals Society foresees that it will use five per cent of the money invested, around 6.5 million dollars, to close the mine and restore the environmental balance.

"The holder of the mining right now granted must send the ministerial department responsible for Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, by November of each year, updated information on the number of jobs created, classified by nationality and gender, as well as other jobs generated in favour of population segments that benefit from differentiated social protection by the State," the document says.

The reserve is composed of 17 types of rare minerals, including Neodymium, Lanthanum, Preaseodymium, Gadolinium, Samarium, Cerium, among others.

These minerals are very valuable because they are used as raw material in the manufacture of technology devices, because of their characteristics. These substances help to conduct heat, electricity and have great magnetization capacity and are widely used in the manufacture of mobile phones, hybrid cars, among others.

They are also considered rare because it is difficult to find such substances in nature, doing justice to the name given to the reserve "Rare Lands".
