Cuban ambassador praises the presence of doctors from his country in Angola

The Cuban ambassador to Luanda considered that the arrival of more than 260 Cuban doctors to fight the covid-19 in Angola "further extends the historic relationship of friendship and cooperation" between both countries.

Esther Armenteros, who was speaking to journalists at Luanda's 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, where 264 Cuban doctors landed, including intensivists, anesthetists and infectious disease specialists, represents the "brotherhood of the past, present and future" between Angola and Cuba.

"And in this moment of contingency, we are going to reinforce the fight against the covid-19 that is causing a lot of damage worldwide and Cuba, as always, is willing to help Angola to the extent of our possibilities," said the diplomat.

The 264 Cuban doctors are in a quarantine period in one of the centers in the Angolan capital and will later be distributed to 164 Angolan municipalities.

Among the Cuban contingent of Cuban professionals is the doctor José Alberto Vauê, who in statements to Lusa guaranteed "work and dedication" to fight the new coronavirus in Angola.

Wiliam Iglesias Marimoh said that he is in Angola to show all his "experience and knowledge" to fight this pandemic and help the Angolan people.

"We have already been prepared on what it is to face cases like this type of illness, despite being a novelty for the world", he underlined.

Angola has 19 confirmed cases of covid-19, namely 15 active, two deaths and two recovered.
