Cans become sinks. System for hand washing made in Angola reaches the streets

The Project Institute Angola (PMI Angola) - an international non-profit organization - decided to create a hand washing system to be placed in various parts of the country. To do this, the organization transformed several drums into washbasins. The measure arose as part of the measures to prevent the covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement sent to VerAngola, PMI explains that this initiative "arose from the need to implement basic and urgent hygiene measures".

More than 90 drums will be distributed and transformed into washing points. These will be placed in places where there is a greater concentration of people: markets, bus stops and taxis, as well as at hospital entrances.

The note also reveals that the project started on 28 March, at Kilamba Kiaxi, having already been "placed several hand washing systems in the districts of Golfe, Sapú, Palanca and Nova Vida".

"Projects like this one see to benefit the population, not only in this specific case of the coronavirus pandemic, but also for the prevention and reduction of infections caused by the cross transmission of other diseases," said Alcides Cabral, president of the organization.

He also pointed out that "the implementation of this project was only possible thanks to the collaboration of our volunteers and partners", highlighting the administration of the urban district of Nova Vida, which ensured "the specialized workforce and has been responsible for installing the systems".

Although the project is already up and running, Alcides Cabral mentioned that the organization still needs "donations of drums, taps, sinks, irons, water supply, bleach, soap, alcohol-gel and other sanitary detergents" for the initiative to be successful.
