Covid-19: new confirmed case raises the total in the country to eight

Angola has registered yet another positive case of infection with the new coronavirus, totaling eight in total, Secretary of State for Health Franco Mufinda announced this Wednesday.

:

"He is a South African citizen who arrived in the country on the 18th", from Pretoria, and was hospitalized a few days later, meeting with mild symptoms in one of the health units in the capital, he said.

The official added that “epidemiological surveillance to detect contacts and contacts' contacts” has already been triggered by the citizen residing in Luanda.

The country has a total of eight cases, with two deaths and one patient recovered, while the other five inpatients remain stable with mild symptoms.

Franco Mufinda said that Angola currently has the capacity for around 25 thousand tests and will start to decentralize the analysis.

Until April 15th, it is intended to start testing in the provinces, and at the end of the month, after the validation of the rapid test, this method can be used throughout the country.

About 90 travelers, practically everyone in the Calumbo II quarantine center, began to return to their homes after the samples turned out to be negative.

The Secretary of State also said that 40 more samples were processed, of which 39 were negative.

Still this week, between Saturday and Sunday, the institutional quarantine centers should be emptied, "as the 14 days of quarantine are coming to an end and the entire collection of samples has already been done", some of which are being processed, indicated the same responsible.

The quarantine centers will then be able to receive "mild cases", with the hospitals, namely Barra do Kwanza and Clínica do Prenda, dedicated to monitoring critical cases.

Just over 1700 people are quarantined across the country, of which 919 are in Luanda, of which 441 are in institutional quarantine.

The Integrated Public Security Center (CISP) registered 419 calls, of the 174 related to reports of violations of home quarantine and 208 requests for information.

Thirty alerts were discarded and seven investigated, of which three were validated and "are being followed" in a health facility, concluded Franco Mufinda.
