Electricity reaches over a thousand homes in five new Lubango neighborhoods

More than a thousand homes in five new districts of Lubango, in Huila, will have electricity from the national grid. The National Energy Distribution Company (ENDE) started this month the project to bring energy to families.

According to the director of the ENDE Distribution Centre in Huila, Lauro Fortunato, electricity will reach a total of 1760 homes.

The residences are spread over five new districts of Lubango, he said, in statements to Angop. According to the official, 400 houses will benefit from the Mukanka residence area, 100 in Cristo Rei, 300 houses in Tchavola, 800 in Nambambe and 160 in Mitcha district.

To avoid payment problems, Lauro Fortunato revealed that prepaid meters are being installed in commercial areas and some public institutions. More than 13,000 meters have also been installed in the residential areas where electricity distribution is working - such as the neighborhoods of Agostinho Neto, Casa Verde, Mapunda, Hélder Neto, Dack-Doy and the municipalities of Chibia, Quipungo and Humpata.

"One way to combat bad payers is the installation of prepaid meters, and 23,144 of these have already been installed since 2016 in Lubango districts, where more than 75,000 customers are registered," he said.
