In a statement, to which VerAngola had access, the CFM announced the official resumption of circulation, which was suspended in December last year.
"The Moçâmedes Railway Company, E.P, informs that circulation on the railway section between Lubango and Menongue, interrupted since December 28, 2024, due to the obstruction of the hydraulic passage in the area between Olivença and Capembe, has been officially resumed", reads the note.
The company also adds that "the restoration works, which culminated in the construction of a new bridge, were fully completed, and services were restored with the expected safety and efficiency conditions".
Thus, according to Angop, a train left this Monday morning from Mukanka station (Lubango) towards Menongue, with more than 400 passengers.
In the note, CFM regrets the inconvenience caused "during the period of stoppage and informs that new timetables are now available, as well as the reopening of some stations along the route: Chanja, Olivença, Chicungo, Nompeto, Micosse, Dongo, Colui, Capunda, Vembambi and Luassenha".
A train with 37 wagons carrying pig iron ingots, totaling 1607 tons – a record for CFM – carried out a test of the new bridge last Friday, writes Angop.
