According to the deputy of the main opposition party Olívio Kilumbo, Venâncio Mondlane, the former president of Botswana Ian Khama and the former president of Colombia Andrés Pastrana are part of a delegation of guests at the conference, organized with the Benthrust Foundation and which will take place in Benguela.
Speaking to Lusa, UNITA's deputy secretary general, Lázaro Kakunha, highlighted that 13 of the 17 guests who were due to come from abroad are being held back, noting that Mondlane, among others, do not need a visa as they are citizens of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
"[Citizens] of SADC member countries do not need visas. All the others come to Angola because they have passed through other countries where they have not faced any impediment. Therefore, this only happens in Angola", noted the deputy from the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).
"We are here, we do not have access to the room where they are, and no one has given us any information about what caused this anomalous situation that surprises everyone, especially in a country that claims to be democratic. This is strange," added the UNITA leader.
Lázaro Kakunha indicated that UNITA will also participate in the conference as a guest, considering that it involves "added responsibilities", since it will take place in Angolan territory "where UNITA is the second political force".
He also criticized the fact that UNITA deputies did not have access to the room where the guests were being held.
"Although we do not have limited access, not even with our immunity are they letting us enter the room so that we can have contact with these distinguished visitors, that is, conference delegates," he told Lusa.
The Attorney General's Office (PGR) of Mozambique applied the measure of identity and residence term to Venâncio Mondlane, in a process in which the politician is accused of inciting violence in post-election demonstrations, which prevents him from staying away from home for more than five days, and he must notify the authorities.
