The Presidency of the Republic, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, informs that the head of state has already left the country.
"The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, left Luanda this Wednesday morning, heading to the Ethiopian capital, to work at the headquarters of the African Union, in his capacity as leader of the continental organization," the note reads.
This trip of yours is related to the act of formalizing the AU commission, whose former members will proceed with the transfer of portfolios.
"The activity that motivates the statesman's trip will take place tomorrow, Thursday, and will be the act of formalizing the Union's commission. The former top officials of the executive structure of the African Union, its commission, will hand over their portfolios, in a symbolic ceremony, to their replacements, elected at the summit that took place in mid-February," the statement clarifies.
Among the officials who take office this Thursday, the most notable are "Djibouti diplomat Mahmoud Yussuf (now President of the AU Commission, replacing Chadian Mussa Faki Mahamat)", as well as "Algerian Selma Malika Haddadi, Vice-President of the Commission".
At the event, which will take place at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, in addition to the two diplomats, four commissioners who were recently elected to occupy different portfolios will also take the oath. They are the Commissioners for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment; Infrastructure and Energy; Political Affairs, Peace and Security; and Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development: Moses Vilakati, Lerato D. Mataboge, Bankole Adeoye and Amma A.Twum-Amoah, respectively.
It is worth remembering that João Lourenço assumed the presidency of the AU last February, with the ceremony taking place at the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the continental bloc.
