Angola spent 756 million dollars on fuel in the last quarter of 2024

Angola spent 756 million dollars to purchase fuels in the fourth quarter of 2024, 2 percent less than in the same period last year, having imported 75 percent, according to the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute (IRDP).

The data was presented today in Luanda by the general director of IRDP, Luis Fernandes, according to whom 1,316,697 metric tons (MT) of petroleum products were acquired for commercialization.

Of this total, approximately 60 percent is diesel, 27 percent is gasoline, 5.3 percent is fuel oil (fuel used in heavy vehicles), 5.2 percent is Jet A1 (used in airplanes), 1 percent is asphalt bitumen and the remaining 0.8 percent is illuminating oil (used in lamps).

Internal acquisitions came from the Luanda Refinery (24 percent) and Cabgoc – Topping de Cabinda (1 percent), with the remaining petroleum products being imported.

Regarding cooking gas (LPG), the same official said that around 140,185 MT were introduced into the domestic market, of which 68 percent came from the Angola LNG Factory, 24 percent from the operator Sanha, 6 percent from the Luanda Refinery and 2 percent from Topping de Cabinda, while the volume of lubricants sold on the domestic market was 7,673 MT.

As far as gas stations are concerned, at the end of 2024 the country had around 900 stations in operational condition.
