Prices increased by 25.26 percent in February compared to the same month in 2024

Inflation fell 1.59 percent in February compared to January 2025, but increased 25.26 percent compared to February 2024, announced the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the INE, the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) recorded a variation of 1.59 percent from January to February 2025, translating into a slowdown of 0.08 percentage points in the monthly variation.

The IPCN states that, when comparing the prices of February of this year with the prices of February 2024, the “year-on-year variation stands at 25.26%, registering an increase of 1.19 percentage points”.

“Comparing the current year-on-year variation with that recorded in January, there is a slowdown of 1.22 percentage points”, the note states.

The “food and non-alcoholic beverages” category contributed the most to the increase in the general price level, with 1.06 percentage points during the month of February, followed by the “miscellaneous goods and services” categories with 0.12 percentage points, “health” with 0.09 percentage points and “clothing and footwear” with 0.08 percentage points.

The provinces that recorded the lowest price variation were Huambo with 1.34 percent, Malanje with 1.42 percent and Luanda with 1.45 percent, while those that recorded the greatest price variation were Cabinda with 2.30 percent, Huíla with 1.96 percent and Lunda Norte with 1.95 percent.

The increase in year-on-year inflation in February, however, represents the lowest rate since March 2024, despite the slight trend of monthly price declines since May 2024, according to INE data.
