Carolina Cerqueira in meeting with the French President

Worldwide parliamentary leaders, including Carolina Cerqueira, president of the National Assembly, were received by Emmanuel Macron, President of France. The meeting took place this Thursday, at the Élysée Palace, in the French capital.

According to Jornal de Angola, the aforementioned meeting with the French head of state took place as part of the program for the last day of the Summit of Presidents of Parliaments from around the world, which took place between this Wednesday and Thursday, in Paris.

According to Carolina Cerqueira's agenda, on the second and last day of the event, the president of the National Assembly attended a round table on women's participation in politics.

On Wednesday, at the opening ceremony of the summit, Carolina Cerqueira highlighted "the benefits of peace in Angola that can serve as an example for the world".

According to a statement from parliament, to which VerAngola had access, the president of the National Assembly mentioned the "opportunity that peace offers for equality, equity for women, the promotion of their rights and their inclusion in political decision-making processes" .

Still on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the summit, Carolina Cerqueira held a meeting with her French counterpart, Yael Braun-Pivet. On the occasion, according to another statement from parliament, to which VerAngola had access, the leader of the national parliament highlighted "the role of the Angolan parliament in preserving and promoting peace, with effective participation in regional parliamentary organizations and electoral observation processes and peace."

Carolina Cerqueira also considered that the role "of parliamentarians has become fundamental".

"She highlighted, on the occasion, the election of Angolan deputies to high positions at the level of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (CIRGIL), SADC, the Pan African Parliament, who have integrated delegations with initiatives to verify and monitor the situation of children, women and families victims of armed conflicts in the region, particularly in Eastern DRC and Northern Mozambique", the note also reads.

It should be noted that the Angolan delegation that traveled to Paris to participate in the event was made up, in addition to Carolina Cerqueira, of deputies Rosa Branca Albino, from the MPLA Parliamentary Group, Albertina Navita Ngolo Felisberto, from the UNITA Parliamentary Group, and Florbela Malaquias , President of the Humanist Party of Angola.
