Speaking during the opening of the first Consultative Council of the Ministry of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing - which takes place this Thursday and Friday - Carlos Alberto dos Santos "reiterated the priority in the Land Law Review process, as well as the strong work of rehabilitation of sections of the national road network, including the sector's capacity to create jobs", says a statement from the ministry, to which VerAngola had access.
Thus, in the field of employment, the minister stated: "It is estimated that the construction sector has generated more than 100 thousand jobs in the period 2018-2022".
In his intervention, the government official also pointed out that, in the period in question, "28 urbanizations and social housing projects were completed, which resulted in 350 thousand residential units available", with a view to reducing the housing shortage that exists in the country.
"Angola needs approximately 2.2 million new homes by 2050 to meet the demand of the real estate market", which requires "four million homes to make up the deficit, taking into account the current rate of population growth", pointed out the minister, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
The holder of the Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing portfolio, among other aspects, also took the opportunity to announce the construction of 3000 social housing units, as well as highlighting the program on buildings in disrepair, which is dependent on the availability of funding for start with the implementation of the strategic intervention plan in the aforementioned buildings, where the emphasis is on Lot 1 of Prenda, on Avenida Comandante Valódia, among others.
In his speech, he also pointed out the asphalting of more than 11 thousand kilometers "in the main sections" of the country's roads, corresponding to almost half (41.3 percent) compared to the "total extension of the national road network". Quoted by Jornal de Angola, it also highlighted the construction of nearly 4000 meters of concrete bridges and the installation of 1200 metal bridges.
In addition, he also mentioned the roads of Luanda, where he highlighted the work on duplicating National Road 100 towards Cabolombo-Barra do Kwanza, the rehabilitation of Road 230, etc. Among other aspects, he also mentioned the start of construction of the Corimba roadside.
He also took the opportunity to recall the approval of ravine containment and stabilization strategies.
It should be noted that the council takes place under the motto "The importance of spatial planning and infrastructure in improving human settlements".
