UNITA reaffirms “firm will” to continue fighting for local authorities

UNITA reaffirmed its “firm political will to work to demand the institutionalization of local authorities”, considering that the “alleged new political and administrative division must be roundly repudiated”.

:

The position is contained in a statement issued by the Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of the party alluding to the 57th anniversary of the founding of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), recalling that the non-implementation of local authorities over the years 47 years of the country's independence, "makes Angola the only country without local power in the southern region of the African continent".

Regarding the party's history, the document emphasizes that the political organization is proud "above all for its quality contribution in the great turning points in the history of Angola, in the last five decades", being that the worst crisis of its trajectory occurred in 2002, with "the heroic death of the founding president", Jonas Savimbi.

"However, the greatest capital that Dr. Savimbi's leadership bequeathed to the Angolans, that is, the Society Project, the leaders and staff of different stripes and levels, allowed UNITA's survival and its exponential growth, internally and externally", highlights the statement.

In its statement, the Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA expresses its "unfailing solidarity with the different professional classes that claim for the improvement of their working, salary and living conditions", urging the Executive "not to turn into an enemy sworn in who contests its policies".

Referring to the crisis facing Angolan justice in recent times, the Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA "calls on the Angolan people to face with seriousness and disgust the most recent scandals and crisis in the judiciary that caused the resignation of the President of the Court of Auditors and puts the President of the Supreme Court in serious trouble".

"From a moral crisis in the judiciary, it turned into an institutional crisis, when the Presidency of the Republic, in an untimely manner, interfered in the judiciary, affecting the normal functioning of the institutions of the Democratic State of Law that Angola claims, injuring the CRA [Constitution of the Republic of Angola], which clearly establishes the separation of the three powers", reads the statement.

Internally, the Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA urges its members to redouble "efforts to mobilize voters for political alternation in 2027, starting with the challenge of implementing local authorities, in all municipalities in the country, during 2023, as they are, until proven otherwise, the right path for the development of communities".

To party leaders, namely the former secretary general of UNITA, Lukamba Paulo Gato, as coordinator of the Management Committee, from February 2002 to June 2003, and the former president of UNITA, Isaías Samacuva, who led the party for 16 years, after the death of Jonas Savimbi, the statement conveys gratitude for the roles they played in the last two decades of the party.

"The Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA, on behalf of all members, sympathizers, friends, voters and the people in general, effusively congratulates the President of UNITA and Leader of the FPU [United Patriotic Front], Eng. Adalberto Costa Júnior for the unprecedented electoral result in the general elections of 08/24/2022, although it does not reflect the true will of the voters expressed in the ballot boxes", stresses the document.
