Angola is the third largest cassava producer in Africa

Angola is among the largest producers of cassava on the African continent, occupying the third position. The country is only surpassed by Nigeria and Ghana, which occupy the first and second places, respectively.

The revelation was made by Moniz Paulo Mutunda, head of the Regional Cassava Leadership Center of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Speaking to Angop, the official – who did not provide global information on the continent – informed that the podium regarding the production of this tuber is led by Nigeria. The 'silver' belongs to Ghana, with Angola appearing in third position and ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In terms of SADC, Moniz Paulo Mutunda revealed that Angola, counting since February 2022 with the effectiveness of the Agricultural Productivity Program of Southern Africa (APPSA), in financing from the World Bank, with a view to strengthening the fight against hunger and poverty in the country and in Southern Africa, heads the list of the biggest producers, writes Angop.

Cited by Angop, the official – while speaking this Monday, in Huambo, about the projects of the SADC Regional Cassava Leadership Center – said that as a result of this and other projects taking place in the country, the degree of production of this tuber in the country it is currently estimated at 14 million tons per year, with a yield of between 13 and 14 tons per hectare, being more prevalent in Bengo, Cuanza Sul, Bié, Huambo, Luanda, Cabinda, Cuanza Norte, Malanje, Uíge, Zaire and Namibe.
