Eduardo Peres Alberto, secretary general of the National Union of University Teachers (SINPES), in statements to the newspaper O País, explained that teachers would suspend the strike if the Government started to respond to the salary proposal.
"We will not give up the strike outside of these demands, above all because of unfulfilled promises, to which we are already getting used to, although not consented to", he reiterated.
Cited by O País, the unionist recalled that this is an initial condition, since then the union would give the Executive a period of nine months to respond to the proposal.
He added that the class also agrees with the possibility for the Executive to satisfy the measure in two stages.
This proposal, among other matters, were scheduled to be discussed last Thursday. However, the meeting convened by the Executive through the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security did not take place due to the lack of representatives from the Ministry of Finance, and a new meeting was scheduled for this Thursday, March 10th.
