Prices of basic food products reduce 19.9 percent

For the week of March 28 to April 3, reference prices for basic basket goods recorded a decline of around 19.9 percent compared to November last year.

According to data from the Strategic Food Reserve (REA), cited by Angop, 25-kilogram wheat flour was one of the products that registered the greatest drop, from 23,033 kwanzas to 11,400 kwanzas, which represents a reduction of around 50.5 percent.

Also noteworthy was the 25-kilogram cornmeal, which dropped from 13,800 to 9300 kwanzas, translating into a reduction of 32.6 percent.

In turn, the 50-kilogram bag of sugar was now worth 22,800 kwanzas against the previous 24,200. In the period in question, there were also drops in the prices of 25 kg Thai rice (from 11,737 to 8500 kwanzas) and in the same quantity of myanmar rice (down from 10,000 kwanzas to 8300 kwanzas).

The data also reveal that the box of 12 one-liter bottles of soy oil is now worth 13,150 kwanzas against the previous 17,450 kwanzas. The 10-kilogram chicken thigh dropped from 10,190 kwanzas to 7500 kwanzas.

According to Angop, the balance concerns the entire country and the numbers were compared to November last year, when the REA had not yet been created.

In the international market, the prices of beans, rice, maize and wheat registered an increase, while sugar fell.
