During his visit to the centre, João Lourenço got to know the breeding areas and the fish fattening ponds, as well as checking the centre's activity, writes Angop.

The infrastructure – which was inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture, António Francisco de Assis, on Thursday, March 10th – will be dedicated to large-scale fish farming.

For this, it is equipped with 36 metal tanks, each of which has the capacity to house more than 20,000 fish. It also has a room for processing fish, slaughtering, gutting and nesting.

Three ultra-cooling, conservation and one ice chambers, as well as a fish processing plant, 16 greenhouses for breeding tilapia, among others, are also part of the infrastructure.

The center also has a factory with a production capacity of up to 400 kilograms of feed per hour to feed the fish.

According to Angop, the center's activity ranges from the production of fish larvae (fingerlings) to fattening, a procedure that allows fish to reach the necessary size for sale.

Budgeted at 14 million dollars, the center was built by Mitrelli in an area of eight hectares and is capable of producing 3500 fingerlings.

Between August and December 2019, the first fish larvae were released, which currently weigh between 350 and 500 grams, considered the ideal size for sale.

The start-up of this center generated 28 direct jobs for young people from Cuando Cubango.
