Francisca Van Dunem retired and jubilee as a judge of the Supreme Court

The Portuguese Minister of Justice, Francisca Van Dunem, has retired as an advisor judge to the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ), according to information published this Tuesday in the Portuguese Republic Gazette, following the decision of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM).

"By order of the Honorable Vice-President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, of March 16, 2022, in the use of delegated competence, is the Honorable Judge Counselor of the Supreme Court of Justice, Dr. Francisca Eugénia da Silva Dias Van Dunem, disconnected from the service for the purposes of retirement with the effects foreseen in article 70.º nº 1, subparagraph b) of the Statute of Judicial Magistrates”, can be read in the publication.

Francisca Van Dunem has led the Ministry of Justice of Portugal since November 2015 and has been accumulating this portfolio under the tutelage of the Ministry of Internal Administration since December 4, 2021, after the departure of Eduardo Cabrita from the Government.

Born in 1955, in Luanda (Angola), the ruler - who has already announced that she is not available to continue in the new executive of Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa - graduated from the Lisbon Faculty of Law and began her career as a magistrate of the Ministry Public in September 1979.

Among the main positions held throughout his career, the work in the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic between 1999 and 2001, the management of the Lisbon Criminal Investigation and Action Department between 2001 and 2007 and the service as District Attorney General Lisbon, from 2007 to 2015, the year in which she suspended her duties to take office as minister.

It was already when she was in government that she ended up taking office as a counselor judge at the STJ, on March 29, 2016.
