João Lourenço asks for foreign investment in agriculture in the face of the “likely food crisis”

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, asked this Monday, in Praia, for foreign investment in Angola in the agricultural sector, given the country's potential and the "probable food crisis" that the world will face.

:

"More than ever, the world must prepare itself for a probable food crisis that is coming. Therefore, investing in agriculture, investing in livestock, investing in fisheries, wherever possible, is something that statesmen must have in their agendas", appealed João Lourenço.

The head of state was speaking after meeting with the prime minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, during his visit to the archipelago.

"Angola, like other countries in the world that have a vocation for agriculture, has its doors open to foreign investors", said João Lourenço, alluding to the availability that he also previously advanced of making land available for Cape Verdean investors to cultivate in Angola to guarantee the Cape Verde's food needs and for export.

Without ever referring to the situation in Ukraine and the invasion of Russia, which made the prices of some foods soar around the world, João Lourenço recalled the "great potential" of Angola in agriculture, such as the "abundant arable land", the climate and the water.

"What Angola needs is investment. We need investment from the Angolans themselves, but also from foreign investors, including Cape Verdean investors, to produce food in abundance," said the Angolan head of state. .

João Lourenço arrived in Praia on Sunday and began the official program of the state visit to Cape Verde, reciprocating the one carried out in January by Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves to Luanda.
