The bet is on the municipal administration, which in 2020, as part of an experimental project, provided seeds to more than 25 producers who registered in the local peasant control system.
Francisco Cazuba, municipal director of agriculture, quoted by Jornal de Angola, informed that in addition to the seeds directed to producers, the local government will also distribute more seeds and organize more hectares to expand cultivation land and production.
The official considered that this increase could help to reduce the price of a kilogram of rice.
He also made it known that in 2021 10 tons of rice were harvested. A number that, according to the official, expresses the involvement in local production, carried out mainly by individual peasants in associations and cooperatives that have been committed to cultivation for about two years: "There is a strong engagement of local producers".
Cited by Jornal de Angola, Francisco Cazuba said that since the initiative started two years ago, more than 50 tons of rice have been harvested, among other products, especially soy.
Regarding soy, the official revealed that last year an experimental plot was created for its production, adding that with two kilograms of seed, 47 kilograms were harvested, considering that there are "good indicators here".
