According to figures available on the financial regulator's website, Portuguese emigrants in the second largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa sent 23.14 million euros, which represents an increase of 4.09 percent compared to the 22.23 million sent in January 2021 and is also up from the 22.76 million sent in January 2020.
Portuguese people working in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP) sent 23.8 million euros in January, which represents an increase of 5.06 percent compared to the 22.72 million sent in the first month of 2021, and practically in line with the 23.4 million euros remitted to Portugal in January 2020.
Globally, remittances from emigrants fell by 0.5 percent in January, from €304.4 million in the first month of 2021 to 302.8 million dollars in January 2022, according to the Bank of Portugal.
Emigrants sent 302.79 million euros to Portugal in January this year, which represents a slight decrease from 0.54 percent compared to the 304.44 million euros sent in January last year.
