African Development Bank visits Angola to assess credit rating

A mission from the African Development Bank (ADB) will be in Angola between Wednesday and Friday to carry out the national economic review, as part of the update of the country's debt risk rating.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance (Minfin), the representatives of the ADB will present to the executive the details on the process of defining Angola's risk classification and carry out the economic review of the country.

The mission led by the risk director of the ADB group, Ifedayo Orimoloye, will hold working meetings with senior officials from the financial sector, including the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves de Sousa, and the Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos, the 30th of March.

There will be technical meetings with representatives of the Office of Studies and International Relations and the Debt Management Unit of Minfin, with a meeting also scheduled for the same day at the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

For the second day of work, meetings are planned with the team of senior staff from the Banco Nacional de Angola (BNA) and the Fundo Soberano de Angola.

The mission also foresees meetings with multilateral partners, namely the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, as well as the United Nations Development Programme, according to Minfin.

The ADB began operations in Angola in 1983 and since then has approved 34 projects worth US$594.5 million, including investment projects in the public and private sector, as well as institutional capacity building programmes.

"The bank is committed to supporting Angola's regional integration agenda, through projects in the energy, transport, agriculture and fisheries sectors. It is also focused on promoting the diversification of the economy, supporting the competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies. (SME) and income and employment generation, in line with the Medium Term National Strategic Plan", added Minfin.
